Memoir publishing services: What we do and how we do it
The Short Publishing Company specialises in publishing your memoirs to order
We normally work with people who have already written their memoirs in draft form, usually in a Word document, and who want to turn these into professionally produced books in limited quantities, rather than for wide general publication (but we can help with the writing too!)
Copies are destined for members of the family and particular friends, with perhaps a few sold separately to former contacts and associates.
These are the services we offer
Editing: From fixing typos to helping you rewrite entire sections with which you may be struggling, our book editing services can be tailored to your specific needs. Our editor has more than 40 years’ experience, and can be relied upon to produce perfect proofs every time.
Layout: A lot of thought goes into preparing books for publication, and layout is one of the most vital – yet most overlooked – disciplines. In effect, it means making sure your writing is presented in the best and most natural way possible, with no ugly overhanging text.
Cover design: The hard fact of the matter is that people generally do judge a book by its cover – which means it’s absolutely essential to get the cover design right. We work with designers to make sure your memoir is as eye-catching on the shelf as possible.
Internal images: Your memoir can’t tell a complete life story without the aid of images, so if you have a stack of precious photographs and other memorabilia, we will digitise the best ones with the utmost care, and print them in pride of place.
Publishing: We offer small print runs of between about 30 and 300 copies of your memoir, in either hard cover or paperback format. Change word order
Sales advice: While we do not offer sales services for your memoir, we can offer you advice on sales if that’s the route you hope to take with your magnum opus.
